Tension & Trauma Release Exercises

to help your body recover from stress and trauma

Some memories live in the body — not the mind.

TRE (Tension & Trauma Release Exercises) is a natural, body-centered technique designed to help release stress, tension, and trauma stored in the body.

Through a series of simple, guided movements, TRE activates the body’s innate tremoring mechanism, promoting deep physical and emotional relaxation. This gentle, self-empowering practice helps calm the nervous system, reduce chronic tension, and restore balance and well-being.

To get started, you can attend an Intro to TRE Workshop or schedule a private 1:1 session. In these sessions, you’ll learn the foundational exercises, understand how your unique nervous system responds to tremoring, and develop the skills to safely self-regulate.

From there, you can build your own at-home practice and/or continue with regular weekly classes or private sessions for ongoing support and refinement.

TRE is suitable for all fitness levels and can be adapted to individual needs, making it an accessible and effective tool for both everyday stress and deeper stored tension.

Private 1:1 TRE® Session
A personalized session tailored to your body and nervous system. Ideal if you prefer individual guidance, have specific concerns, or want focused support as you begin your TRE practice.

  • Anyone who has experienced stress, tension, or trauma can benefit from TRE™.

It’s especially helpful for individuals dealing with chronic stress, anxiety, physical tension, or past trauma.

TRE™ is also widely used by healthcare professionals, first responders, athletes, and individuals in high-stress environments.

  • Yes — TRE® is considered safe when practiced responsibly and with proper guidance.

TRE is designed as a self-help tool, but it is important to first learn the foundational practice with a Certified TRE® Provider. Typically, 2–3 guided sessions are recommended so you can understand how your body responds, learn appropriate modifications, and develop the skills of self-regulation.

Self-regulation is a core principle of TRE®. This means learning how to slow down, take breaks, or stop the tremoring process when needed. A certified provider helps you build this awareness so that you feel safe, grounded, and in control during and after your sessions.

Once you understand how to work with your body in a regulated way, TRE can become a powerful and sustainable personal practice.

  • The best way to begin is by attending an Intro to TRE® Workshop (Live/Online).

The Intro workshop is designed to teach you the fundamentals of the practice, including how to activate the tremor mechanism safely and — most importantly — how to self-regulate. You’ll learn how your unique body responds and how to slow down, pause, or stop the tremors when needed.

It is generally recommended that you complete approximately three guided sessions before beginning a personal TRE practice on your own. This allows you to build familiarity, confidence, and body awareness.

Once you’ve attended an Intro workshop, you are welcome to join the regular weekly AM or PM TRE classes. In these ongoing classes, we move at a slightly quicker pace because participants are already familiar with the exercises and self-regulation tools.

This step-by-step approach helps ensure that TRE becomes a safe, empowering, and sustainable practice for you.

  • Yes — TRE® is designed to be practiced both individually and in a group setting, and it is a powerful self-help practice that you can do anywhere.

That said, it is strongly recommended that you first learn the fundamentals with a Certified TRE® Provider. Most people benefit from attending an Intro to TRE workshop and completing approximately 2-3 guided sessions/classes before practicing independently. This helps you understand how your body responds and how to self-regulate — meaning you know how to slow down, pause, or stop the tremors if needed.

Once you feel confident in your ability to regulate your experience, TRE can become a safe and empowering personal practice. Short sessions (10–20 minutes), no more than three times per week, are generally recommended to allow the body time to rest and integrate between sessions.
